A Much-Needed Vacation to sunny South Carolina

A few weeks ago, my family and I went to South Carolina for a week of much-needed relaxation. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do for work, but it can be emotionally consuming. My husband and kids always help me switch off from the business mindset at home, but with the stress of constantly making presentations and meeting up with dozens of people a week regarding some type of business deal, it weighs on you a bit.

With that being said, I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything. Being the director of the Entrepreneurship Program at Ball State University and the assistant lecturer at the Miller College of Business, along with my 11 whole years of highs and lows in business, have all led me to where I am today; Those experiences are a part of who I am. I don’t participate in the Muncie community or my alma mater because I feel obligated to or have a need to “network,” I do it because I love it.

What I’m trying to get at is that even if you love what you do, everyone needs a vacation now and then. Burnout is very real and I’m trying to avoid it or at least be conscious of it.

I have to say, South Carolina is beautiful, and it was even more beautiful to just enjoy the presence of my family and make memories in the moment with them. For a whole week, I didn’t have to think about work, what to do next, or even what was happening back home on the farm. It was a refreshing break filled with a week of hiking, fresh air, and relaxing in the sun. Thankfully, the weather was mostly sunny and clear, it would’ve been a big bummer to stay inside during my time off. Overall, I feel very recharged after my week off and am feeling grateful. Don’t take your vacation days for granted!
